To say the all-new Sonata was a boon to Hyundai and its brand is an understatement. Not only does it aim to offer incredible value, which is important in midsize sedan segment, but the new model also adds a level of style and luxury that has never previously existed in this model.
Autoblog’s recent test of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS shows that the Sonata shines in terms of its styling. It “looks upscale” thanks to its sculpted headlines, rakish hood, and sloping beltline. The roof in particular is angled in such as way that it’s somewhat couple-like, thereby adding a hint of sportiness too. The new model is proving to be a hit with buyers, Maryland Hyundai Dealers say.
Inside, Autoblog found that the interior design is equally as handsome as the exterior. And as far as comfort and amenities, “the Sonata’s interior seem more upscale than its price tag would suggest.” Hyundai’s improvements have made the brand more compatible, Annapolis Honda says.
Power is supplied via an all-new direct-injected 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine. This unit produces 198 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque and yields an impressing 22 mpg city and 35 mpg highway. Thanks to its 35 mpg, the Sonata has become the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid mid-size sedan – yet another perk for frugal, value-seeking consumers.
When the 2011 Sonata finally hit the open road, it didn’t disappoint there either. It provided “comfortable, cushy ride, though it never feels disconnected or floaty” on account of its relatively soft suspension. While not “sporty,” the Sonata should deliver the driving dynamics that most buyers demand.
The base Hyundai Sonata GLS starts at just $19,190. Look out for the arrival of the all-new turbo and hybrid models later this year.
