Speaking to reporters on the eve of the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Hyundai Motor America CEO John Krafcik confirmed what has long been rumored – the automaker is planning to produce a turbocharged version of the Velostar. The 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo hatchback is scheduled to debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show in January.

According to Krafcik, the car will be powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine. The engine is expected to be the recently announced turbocharged version of the inline-four that’s in the current Veloster, which produces 204 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. This is compared with the current engine that makes 138 horsepower and 123 lb.-ft of torque.

Hyundai is displaying custom versions of the Veloster at the SEMA show to illustrate what customizers can do with the model.

Krafcik also revealed that the Genesis Coupe will receive some tweaking, but details won’t be released until the Detroit auto show. Release dates for the 2013 Veloster Turbo and 2013 Genesis Coupe aren’t yet available but both cars are expected to arrive dealer showrooms by mid-2012.

Las Vegas usually isn’t considered hurricane country, but that’s going to change come this November, thanks to Hyundai. The automaker will be launching the Hyundai Genesis Hurricane SC during the 2011 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show, scheduled for Nov. 1-4 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Two years in the making, the Genesis Hurricane SC leverages the performance foundation of the production Genesis sports coupe, as well as the performance expertise of Hyundai America Technical Center Inc. (HATCI) and a hand-picked crew of some of the world’s top aftermarket players. A particular highlight of the car is its supercharger, developed by HATCI and Magnuson Products to squeeze more than 450 hp out of the car’s 3.8-liter V6 engine.

“The HATCI and Magnuson supercharger demonstrates the high-performance potential of Genesis Coupe’s V-6 engine – the car was engineered to handle this kind of extra power,” said David Dutko, senior engineer, HATCI. “Our HATCI engineers have been working for years with Magnuson to ensure high engine output is available on future Hyundai vehicles.”

Other notable mods on the Genesis Hurricane SC:

• A Torvec IsoTorque differential
• Exterior upgrades from Hyundai motorsports partner Rhys Millen Racing (RMR), including a new front bumper, grille, hood, side skirts, diffuser and rear deck with spoiler
• Hi-po 19-inch wheels and competition-style rubber from Enkei and Hankook
• An RMR free-flow exhaust and air intake
• Upgraded LED headlights and taillights from FlyRyde
• Bilstein monotube shocks and adjustable springs
• Brembo six-piston brakes with cross-drilled front and rear rotors
• Interior enhancements like a premium Lexicon audio setup from Harman, specifically tuned for the Genesis Hurricane SC, and custom Katzkin seats

And while the production forecast for this hot-rod Hyundai currently remains unclear, Terry Peddicord, director of sales for Magnuson, did note that: “One of the many exciting aspects of this project is that the Genesis Hurricane SC is not just another pretty face for the show circuit, but rather it is a hard working lab-rat that will push the bounds of this car and the whole vehicle segment.”

The 2011 Genesis and Genesis Coupe are proof positive that Hyundai knows how to dial up the optimum mix of performance and luxury. But the automaker also knows that hard-core enthusiasts are more than willing to trade some of the latter for more of the former. And that’s where the 2011 Genesis 3.8 R-Spec Coupe comes into play.

The new model packs in all the key “go fast” hardware from the 3.8 Track model, subtracts unneeded convenience features and 68 lbs. of curb weight—along with $4,000 from the Track version’s MSRP—to deliver the ultimate high-performance Hyundai. In fact, the hottest Genesis Coupe in the Hyundai stable is now also the least-expensive V6 model available, starting at just $26,750 at Hyundai Marlow Heights. Used cars are also available.

With that price of admission, the 3.8 R-Spec holsters a robust 3.8-liter V6 that provides the kind of sizzling acceleration you can only get from 306 hp and 266 lb.-ft. of torque, then receives significant upgrades to help drivers get the most out of that power. These include a six-speed manual transmission, a track-tuned suspension, 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in performance tires, a powerful Brembo braking system, a Torsen limited-slip differential and even the built-in ability to sharpen handling further. That’s courtesy of dealer-installed front-strut camber-adjustment bolts that let tuners adjust the 3.8 R-Spec’s suspension for improved turn-in and response.

Even the car’s paint offers a performance-oriented nod. The 3.8 R-Spec is available in the “four exterior colors most common among international racing teams: Karussell White, Bathhurst Black, Interlagos Yellow and Tsukuba Red.

Hyundai recently announced pricing on the rest of the Genesis Coupe range as well. The full slate:

In today’s world, your ride doesn’t need to holster eight cylinders to deliver pulse-pounding road thrills, and with the right car, you don’t even need six—provided that car is the Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T. Just ask the team at Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com, which recently named the Coupe 2.0T to its 2010 Top 10 Fast-lane Fours list.

According to the KBB.com editors, the car “complements its sexy lines and impressive packaging with a bounty of straight-line quickness,” a feature that comes standard with Hyundai’s advanced 2.0-liter I4 engine. This turbocharged powerplant leverages cutting-edge technology—like dual continuously variable valve timing—to make an impressive 210 hp and 223 lb.-ft. of torque. Managing that power is a choice of two transmissions: A close-ratio six-speed manual comes standard, and drivers also can opt for an electronic six-speed automatic with Hyundai’s SHIFTRONIC paddle-shifters.

This Coupe can carve the curves, too, thanks to a thoroughly engineered, performance-oriented suspension. Just ask the folks at Salisbury Hyundai Dealers. Up front, this hot Hyundai sports dual-link MacPherson struts with gas-filled shocks for precision steering; out back, it’s a five-link setup that’s designed to reduce wheel hop.

And that’s just the standard equipment. As KBB.com points out, R-Spec and Track models really “peg the enthusiast meter by adding a host of functional chassis/brake/wheel-and-tire upgrades to the already ultra-competent underpinnings.” In both configurations, that means bigger, 19-inch wheels and a retuned, racetrack-developed suspension to further sharpen the car’s responses; in the Track model, drivers who want to test their limits can add features like a Torsen limited-slip differential, performance stoppers from Brembo and a front-strut tower brace.

Another bonus: While ”relentlessly high fuel prices and increasingly stringent emissions requirements” are changing how automakers and customers alike look at performance, the Coupe 2.0T can achieve an EPA line of 21 mpg city/30 mpg highway/24 mpg combined and emit the same amount of CO2 as the less-powerful Honda Civic SI.

“We think our Genesis Coupe 2.0T, with its unique combination of rear-wheel drive and four-cylinder turbo power, offers an intriguing alternative to existing front-wheel drive sport coupes,” said Scott Margason, director of product planning, Hyundai Motor America. “Genesis Coupe provides a potent combination of performance and value.”

According to Hyundai Washington DC, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe has already given the V6-powered Ford Mustang a run for its money. But soon, an all-new 5.0-liter V8 that’s being prepped for the Genesis Sedan and Equus may also find its way under the hood of the Genesis Coupe, giving Ford something else to be worried about.

Ford’s new 5.0-liter engine in the 2011 Mustang produces 412 horsepower. The new Hyundai unit, which is a bored out version of the current 4.6-liter Tau V8, will produce 429 horsepower.

This upcoming direct-injection 5.0 engine will for sure find its way into the Genesis Sedan for 2011. It will be mated to an all-new eight-speed automatic transmission. The 2011 Equus will eventually also receive it, but when it’s launched this year it will still feature the 4.6-liter unit.

To succeed in the world of Formula DRIFT—North America’s top professional drifting series—you need a well-balanced machine that’s equal parts handling and horsepower. That’s because competitors are rocketing their cars through a marked-out course while executing spectacular sideways slides at the same time. And because drifting is judged on style as well as speed and precision, fielding a ride with aggressive good looks helps as well.

All of which helps explain how a Hyundai Genesis sports coupe ended up with a podium finish in Formula DRIFT’s 2010 season opener. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Rhys Millen, who won the series championship in 2005, was sitting in the driver’s seat.

It says a lot that Millen chose the Genesis in his quest for a second crown according to Hyundai Tuscaloosa, and Millen himself says a lot about the Genesis: “I was in sync with my Genesis Coupe during the entire campaign. The car had so much grip and power I was able to put it close to the walls and mirror the other competitors’ cars’ every move. Nothing compares to the pressure and thrill of the ‘win it or lose it’ factor while competing against more than 50 other cars and drivers.”

And on the road, not much compares to the production Genesis coupe. Hyundai’s high performer offers two distinct routes to on-road excitement: A responsive 2.0-liter turbo that gets 210 hp and 223 lb-ft of torque from its four cylinders, as well as a high-tech 3.8-liter V6 that’s been custom-tuned specifically for the Genesis coupe. The bigger powerplant is good for 306 hp—two more horses than the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro V6—and 266 lb-ft of torque.

Getting all that power to the rear wheels is either a standard six-speed manual transmission or two optional paddle-shifting SHIFTRONIC autoboxes. The turbo Genesis makes do with a five-speed, while the V6 gets an extra cog for those extra horses.

All Genesis models get an advanced suspension setup for truly drift-worthy handling, with dual-pivot struts up front and a five-link setup at the rear. For drivers who want to take slalom runs to the next step, Boston Hyundai recommends the R-Spec package which dials in further enhancements to the suspension, and the Track model adds those in and more hi-po treats, including Brembo stoppers, a Torsen limited-slip differential and a strut-tower brace for consistent traction.

Many automakers have sports cars in their lineup. But few have a presence in motorsports. Hyundai’s involvement with Rhys Millen and other motorports activities helps give the brand credibility asserts Fort Worth used cars, especially now that the brand is offering the Mustang-fighting Genesis Coupe.

But perhaps the best part of the Hyundai Genesis sports coupe? Drivers don’t have to drift much above $22,000 to get into one.

Coming standard with the 2.0T are 18-inch alloy wheels, 12.6-inch disc brakes, a front strut brace, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, steering wheel audio controls, power windows, AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3, air conditioning, projector beam headlamps, trip computer, cruise control, Bluetooth, iPod connectivity, active head restraints, front/side/curtain airbags, ABS, and electronic stability control. That’s a whole lot! While more might be available with the the Genesis compared to the 370Z, Washington DC Nissan have found that the Z not only is a better performer, but also boasts a fan base that love the Z nameplate.

Still want more? Philadelphia Hyundai recommends checking out the 3.8 Track Genesis Coupe which puts out an impressive 306 hp allowing this exceptionally sporty vehicle to compete with the Ford Mustang, the Chevrolet Camaro, and the Nissan 370Z. The 3.8 Track comes standard with19-inch gunmetal finish alloy wheels, Brembo brakes with 13.4-inch rotors and four-piston brakes, track-tuned suspension, and Torsen-type limited-slip differential. Also feel free to choose a Shiftronic automatic in addition to the regular manual transmission.

Starting at $22,000 for the 2.0T, the 2010 Genesis Coupe is going to hit the market hard, or at least that’s the perspective from Hyundai Washington DC. All the way at the top, for around $30,000, Hyundai introduces the 3.8 Track.

When the Hyundai Genesis was introduced back in 2008, the company was hoping it would completely change how buyers looked at the brand by offering new levels of luxury, fit and finish, performance, and quality. And the vehicle started living up to the hype almost immediately, taking home the 2008 North American International Car of the Year award.

In concrete terms, Puyallup car dealers says that this means the Genesis sedan offers a cabin that’s as quiet as a Mercedes-Benz S-Class, a 17-speaker audio system from the same company that outfits Rolls-Royce, the ability to outperform a BMW 5 Series and panel gaps tight as those on a Lexus. Oh, and a retail price that’s all Hyundai, starting at $33,000.

On the heels of Hyundai’s introduction of the all-new Hyundai Genesis sedan, the Korean automaker is also introducing the Genesis Coupe, a sports car that was designed with the Infiniti G37 in mind.

The new Hyundai Genesis Couple has already been released in Korean where it’s already receiving plenty of attention. Hyundai stresses that the Genesis Coupe has all the hallmarks of a high performance car, which is a bold step for Hyundai who’s known primarily for affordable compacts. Hyundai is clearly trying hard to attract a new kind of customer to Hyundai Reading Pennsylvania and other dealer showrooms.

With unique styling, pronounced shoulders, and aggressive lines, the new Hyundai Genesis Coupe certainly reminds us of the Infiniti G37, but with a twist. With its two-tone bumper and dual square-shared exhaust tips, the Genesis has classic sports car proportions that allude to its equally sporty performance. The powerful yet elegant appearance of the exterior also continues throughout the interior. Already this unique blend of styling has excited Boston Hyundai dealers‘ performance enthusiast customers that are eagerly awaiting the vehicle’s release.

With a 3.8-liter V6 that produces over 300 horsepower, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe can certainly perform. The Genesis is also available with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that produces 210 horsepower. Kia dealers such as KIA New Mexico is also hoping for a version of these powerful engines, as Kia is owned by Hyundai Motors. Auffenberg Kia customers also feel that a sports car can easily boost the profile of both brands.

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe also provides ample safety to compliment its performance strengths. The vehicle’s high strength steel should help the Genesis achieve its expected five star safety rating. The performance, safety, and reliability, the new coupe has the Altima in its sights says Nissan Altima MA, but the new coupe also has an unestablished name that it still has to contend with.

When the Hyundai Genesis Coupe hits US dealer showrooms, Used Cars Birmingham expects they’ll have  a strong competitor within the sports coupe segment. Already, the Genesis sedan has delivered plenty of buzz and will help Hyundai change its brand image. When the genesis arrives at dealerships, it will likely have the same brand changing effects.
