The all-new 2011 Hyundai Elantra (aka Avante) has already made its debut in South Korea. But this week, the Korean automaker has confirmed that the new model will arrive in the U.S. by the end of the year.

The updated model certainly is easier on the eyes than the current generation, thanks to its sculpted, aggressive look. Many of the lines are reminiscent of the larger 2011 Sonata, which is most certainly a good thing. The design is also going to help it compete against new compact offerings like the Ford Fiesta and the Chevrolet Cruze.

In addition to its good looks, the new Elantra is longer by about an inch, which should improve interior space. Just ask the folks at Hyundai of Richmond. Used Hyundai dealers will carrying older-model Elantras. However, specifics on the U.S. model, have not been released. Power for the Korean model comes from a new direct-injected 1.6-liter Gamma inline-four producing 138 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque.

Stay tuned for additional details.
