Hyundai is already venturing into the full-size luxury sedan segment, but apparently that may not be the only new area that the Korean automaker could be entering. According to sources at Hyundai, the automaker is considering a full-sized pickup truck as well.

A research team at Hyundai is reportedly holding focus groups regarding the project. Showing off a Hyundai-badged Ram 1500 pickup, pickup truck buyers in the focus groups have thus far responded so well  that the testing will continue to move forward. However, a spokesperson at Hyundai Motor America recently asserted that a pickup truck is not officially in the product pipeline.

“We never say never about future products we might add,” the spokesman said, “but pickup trucks are not a high priority for us.”

This denial of any truck development may also indicate that testing is continuing without the knowledge of Hyundai Motor America. However, few rebadged pickup truck ventures have been successful, which doesn’t bode well for Hyundai. And besides, a pickup truck doesn’t really fit into Hyundai’s recent push upmarket.
