The 2009 New York auto show was chosen to be the venue for Hyundai to continue to show off its new design direction, as well as highlighting more higher-end models. For a look into the into the company’s future, spectators checked out the Hyundai Nuvis crossover, a premium utility vehicle that could reside in Hyundai’s lineup next to the premium Hyundai Genesis.

The design of the Hyundai Nuvis is intended to create a look of constant motion says Newark Hyundai dealers. To achieve this, Hyundai’s designers considered the shape of a boat’s hull and the way in which water flows around it. The exterior of the Nuvis concept follows this same concept.

Hyundai’s Nuvis concept also features gullwing doors, which needless to say won’t make it to a potential production version. In addition, the roof appears to be floating due to hidden pillars and loads of glass. The concept also features eco-friendly materials, including recycled soda bottles in the seats. The Nuvis also includes a system which Chicago used Hyundai dealers expects to see in all Hyundai models in the furture called the Methode Electronics TouchSense, which is a infotainment system that provides a wide range of data including specials and other information as the car drives past a restaurant.

Another eco-friendly feature of the Hyundai Nuvis is the concept’s hybrid system. This includes a 2.4-liter four cylinder engine combined with a 30-killowatt electric motor. Hyundai Albany hope that the sleek Nuvis will find its way into the Hyundai lineup soon to continue the automaker’s journey up market. See more images of the Hyundai Nuvis below.
