For years Nissan has been the number three Asian automaker in the U.S. behind Toyota and Honda. But lately Nissan’s sales have been brisk and the automaker may have a chance to move up on the list. Unfortunately, there’s one dark horse Asian automaker that could stand in Nissan’s way: Hyundai.

Hyundai is coming into a bit of a renaissance, with popular and stylish new products like the Sonata sedan and the Tucson crossover, just to name a couple of models available at Marlow Heights Hyundai Pohanka. Used Cars are also available. Hyundai’s Kia brand has also seen increased popularity in recent months, which may further chip away at the Japanese brands’ market share in the U.S.

“Right now, Toyota is the major automaker in play,” said Jack Nerad, executive market analyst and editorial director for Kelley Blue Book. “There is some weakness there, and how that gets redistributed is anybody’s guess. Nissan would be one of the beneficiaries.”

Hyundai NM confirms that despite the skyrocketing popularity of Hyundai vehicles, Nissan has no shortage of fresh offerings on the horizon. The automaker is preparing to launch the all-new Juke compact crossover, the Quest minivan, and of course the highly anticipated, all-electric Leaf. Stay tuned at the battle continues.
