The Hyundai Genesis Coupe has already given the V6-powered Ford Mustang a run for its money. But soon, an all-new 5.0-liter V8 that’s being prepped for the Genesis Sedan and Equus may also find its way under the hood of the Genesis Coupe, giving Ford something else to be worried about.
Ford’s new 5.0-liter engine in the 2011 Mustang produces 412 horsepower. The new Hyundai unit, which is a bored out version of the current 4.6-liter Tau V8, will produce 429 horsepower. [click to continue…]

The full-size, extremely luxurious, Equus was a big surprise when it was unveiled at the New York Auto Show, but Hyundai had one other surprise. Buyers of the Hyundai Equus would receive an Apple iPad in lieu of a traditional owner’s manual.
Not only will the inclusion of such a device be appealing for gadget-crazed luxury car buyers, but the Equus iPad includes apps that will serve as a digital liaison between the vehicle’s owner and their dealership, helping to schedule maintenance through its Service Valet program, offer reminders of routine maintenance, and schedule vehicle pick-up and delivery. The full-size, and very luxurious, 2011 Hyundai Equus sedan will no doubt help push the Korean brand further up-market. Recent all-new products such as the Genesis sedan have already been crucial in changing consumer perceptions and they have also been helpful in converting more consumers that are new to the brand.
Although the Equus is a car that is certainly worthy of being Hyundai’s flagship as it moves into luxury territory, there are still plenty of risks. Volkswagen attempted to compete directly with models such as the BMW 7 Series or Mercedes-Benz S-class in the U.S. market with the release of the ill-fated Phaeton sedan. Unfortunately, the Phaeton flagship proved to be a tremendous failure for the brand, and VW stopped selling it in the U.S. [click to continue…]

How cool is that?
Well, according to the team at Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com, it was chilly enough to get the Elantra Touring on the website’s list of “Top 10 Coolest New Cars Under $18,000.” KKB.com editors made their picks for the list by analyzing vehicles in terms of such characteristics as safety, fuel economy, interior size and technology. Hyundai and Kia may be late to the hybrid game, but vehicles like the all-new Hyundai Sonata Hybrid are likely to find success among buyers who are looking for high-value and competitive fuel-efficiency. But within the next two years the Korean automaker will offer even more in terms of fuel-efficiency and technology when they release their own hydrogen-powered vehicle.
Based on an existing model, the upcoming Hyundai or Kia fuel-cell vehicle will be a low-volume vehicle and most likely will be available only for lease. [click to continue…]

It takes a rare set of attributes to be named a “Top Safety Pick” by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, which makes the latest news all the more significant: The Hyundai Genesis has achieved this status for the second consecutive year.
Of course, it’s no real surprise when you consider that the “Genesis was designed to be one of the safest vehicles on the road,” according to Hyundai’s manager of product planning, Derek Joyce. [click to continue…]

It’s simple math. Cars.com took eight of the country’s top family sedans, six auto journalists from the likes of USA Today and PBS’ “MotorWeek,” one actual family (two parents, two kids) and three days’ of driving to come up with the one best car you can buy for $25,000 or less. And that one car? None other than the 2011 Hyundai Sonata.
Every car was judged in 10 different categories, with each worth 10 points, for an overall available score of 1,000 points. The Sonata took home honors with 794 points, easily outdistancing the runner Toyota Camry by 42 points. [click to continue…]

Hyundai is already venturing into the full-size luxury sedan segment, but apparently that may not be the only new area that the Korean automaker could be entering. According to sources at Hyundai, the automaker is considering a full-sized pickup truck as well.
A research team at Hyundai is reportedly holding focus groups regarding the project. Showing off a Hyundai-badged Ram 1500 pickup, pickup truck buyers in the focus groups have thus far responded so well that the testing will continue to move forward. However, a spokesperson at Hyundai Motor America recently asserted that a pickup truck is not officially in the product pipeline. [click to continue…]

Rhys Millen is a man on a mission. In 1993, his father, legendary off-road racer Rod Millen, had one of the rides of his life in winning the annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Not only did he win, he also set a record that would stand for an incredible 14 years. And now his son wants that record back in the Millen family—with a little help from Hyundai.
Millen’s going to pilot the RMR Hyundai Genesis PM580 in this year’s event, slated to be held June 27 over one of the most unique courses in all of motorsports. From a starting line more than 10,000 feet up the side of Pikes Peak, drivers race the clock to the summit, covering 12.42 miles of pavement and gravel, climbing almost 5,000 feet in elevation and wrestling their vehicles through 156 turns.
