Not since “Speed” has a bus done so much damage. In Philadelphia on Wednesday, a mentally disabled teenage boy stole a bus before crashing it into an entire row of parked cars.
The 16-year old had spotted the bus at vacant transit depot on Wednesday. The SEPTA bus was empty and idling when the teen decided to jump on board for a “driving lesson” according to local police.
“The kid tried to make a U-turn at Brief Avenue and almost tipped over,” said Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood. “He lost control of the bus, jumped the curb going into the parking lot and crashed into the pole. He told us he wanted to get his driver’s license and took the bus to learn how to drive and practice driving.”
Police had made attempts to pull the bus over and after only a few blocks the teen plowed into more than a dozen parked cars before coming to a stop and leaving a sea of destruction in its wake.
One of the parked vehicles that was hit by the bus was occupied, but no injuries were reported.
“I feel sorry for the people coming home from work and finding their car gone,” Chitwood said.
